Prof. Patricia Katowa Mukwato (PhD)
PROFILE : PROF. PATRICIA KATOWA MUKWATO (PhD).
Prof. Patricia Katowa Mukwato is an Associate Professor of Nursing. She holds a Bachelor and Master of Science in Nursing, a PhD in Medical Education from the University of Zambia and a Post Doctorate. She is also a fellow of the James Hakim Leadership Development Programme. In academia, she has more than 10 years of higher education administration. She served as Dean for the School of Nursing Sciences and Assistant Dean for the School of Nursing and School of Medicine at the University of Zambia. She also served as Chairperson for the University of Zambia School of Medicine Undergraduate Research Ethics Committee in addition to chairing strategic university committees. Her experience spans from developing and implementing specialized academic programmes, establishing a simulation laboratory to setting a satellite campus. She has worn a number of grants funded by NORAD, the National Institute of Health (US), European Union and the Finnish Government, most of which are for capacity building for educational programmes and junior staff to pursue Masters, Doctoral and Post-Doctoral studies and, for teacher/student exchange. Her areas of research interest include teaching and assessment of clinical skills, interprofessional education and coping with and quality of life for patients with chronic illnesses, and mental health. She has Published more than 60 peer-reviewed papers some of which have impacted teaching and learning in her field. Scholar.
As a Professional, she has held positions including being Chairperson for the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Zambia Board, Co-lead for the AFREhealth Southern Africa Chapter and Chairperson for the Research Faculty for East Central and Southern Africa College of Nursing and Midwifery (ECSACONM). She has also been a Board Member for Women for Change and current Governing Council Member for AFREhealth. She is very passionate about promoting teaching/learning, research and mentorship for transforming novices to competent individuals.
