MASTER OF SCIENCE IN SANITATION

Introduction

The MSc. Sanitation is an interdisciplinary programme that is focused on non-sewered sanitation. The programme targets talented and ambitious professionals dealing with urban and peri-urban sanitation, especially in informal settlements. Participants should have a Bachelor’s or equivalent degree in sanitation, civil, chemical, agricultural, environmental engineering, chemistry, ecology, biology, natural science, environmental science, agriculture or environmental economics. Candidates who do not have a degree in the relevant field, but do have various years of work experience in the field of sanitation can also apply.

Aims of the programme

The programme aims to produce professionals with the requisite leadership, technical and managerial knowledge and expertise in sanitation who will be able to contribute to sustainable development at the national and international levels.

 

Objectives of the programme

After successfully completing this programme, graduates should be able to:

Contribute to sustainable development through the provision of knowledge, skills and competencies in sanitation;

Apply existing sanitation knowledge and theory in practice;

Contribute to the further development of knowledge in sanitation;

Conduct practice-orientated field research, independently or in a multidisciplinary team;

Link the taught subject matter, not only to research outcomes but also to sanitation practice;
