Rationale
People management has undergone transformation over the years from a profit motivated management of human resources to an exchange of relational value aimed at building long lasting human relationships in the workplace. People management, increasingly, is taking over the term human resource management so as to remove the emphasis capital puts on using human resources in the workplace as a means to an end but, rather, that human resources are people who ought to be managed well beyond the scope and interests of capital-that is, they are not just ‘resources’ but people who need to be managed with respect, care and due consideration as they embody various aspirations identities and world views.
Therefore, the introduction of this short course on People Management is based on the observed need for managers of people in various public and private institutions that may require to renew their knowledge on management of people and or have not had an opportunity during their work life course to learn how to manage people in work environments but do directly or indirectly supervise and superintend over the human resources of an institution’s department, or overall organization.
